Gris-Gris opened in late December of 2007. We originally set up shop in the Jupiter sim, but then opened an expansion in beautiful Land of Hope, and have just recently closed down the Jupiter shop to focus on the new one. Plans for furnishings and decor, skins, prefabs, and other items are planned for the far future. We made these things originally, but have since removed them to focus exclusively on fashion.

The name “Gris-Gris” (pronounced “gree-gree”) is simply explained. A gris-gris bag in voudoun is a medicine bag, sometimes used as a protective amulet or charm. The shop itself is dedicated to all things special, eclectic, and unique; the name reflects the wonder and magic with which our eyes perceive the world around us, and is a reflection of that wonder. We like to think that when you find something special within our walls, you’ve found something that speaks to you, personally.

The clothes at Gris-Gris are hand-painted by me, Naoki Ninetails. I do my best to post sketches for a design before going forward with its creation. Using a Cintiq 12WX tablet, I paint colors on top of the sketches and then go to work on the clothes, themselves.

Everything at Gris-Gris is straight from my mind. You’ll find that the style of clothing we sell runs the gamut from fantasy to totally casual. We are driven by our whims and this can lead us in some strange directions. We just hope that you’ll find something you enjoy.
